Choosing your Scrum team – Rock stars or studio musicians?

There is a movement in IT recruiting circles to try and locate so-called ā€˜rock-starā€™ developers. Iā€™ve always had an issue with this juxtaposition as I feel it sends a confused message to the market. Letā€™s think about this for a minute; what are the qualities that are synonymous with rock stars?

Iā€™m sure youā€™ll agree that they are typically perceived as charismatic, creative and individualistic ā€“ good things right? Flipping the coin now, letā€™s now take a look at some of the not so laudable (stereotypical) characteristics – think temperamental, attention-seeking and arrogant with a healthy dose of ā€˜my way or the highwayā€™ attitude thrown in there.
